No Travel Bucket List?

I am aware that many people have a travel bucket list - the top places they want to visit before….

In the year since I retired, I have realized that I don’t really have that kind of list. I just love to travel and there’s really no place I wouldn’t go once just to experience the uniqueness of that place and its people. The American Legion in Hoople, ND for a burger and beer or the Museum of the French Foreign Legion in Aubagne, France for some history - let’s go!

So I have a bucket Three Trip Annual Plan instead. Each year my goal is to do one car trip (I love the complete freedom of car trips), one winter escape from Minnesota to a warm place and one trip which requires my passport. As a lawyer I have to add a rule that a winter escape to Mexico does not count as a passport trip.

So…in a few days I will be checking off my 2026 passport trip with my wife Michelle Weber Johnson and travel companions Bev Weber and Douglas Weber with an Avalon Rhine River Cruise through the Netherlands, Germany, France and Switzerland with a few final days in Paris and putting these stickers on my suitcase .

I’ve never been on a river cruise so I’m asking any of you that have to shoot me your best tips and memories. Let me know what I need to know and what you loved best about the experience.

And…if you’ve been to Paris recently and had a unique experience (I’ve been there before and I’m aware of that tower thing and that smiling lady painting) let’s hear about that too. What was your hidden gem experience?
